Winter transfers: Union signs a Spanish midfielder in Switzerland | Jupiler Pro League

Arno Verschueren moves from 1B Lommel to Dutch first-division team Sparta Rotterdam. The 24-year-old midfielder will be appointed for the coming months, after which he will be transferred permanently at the end of the season. He signed a contract at Het Kasteel until the summer of 2025.

“This was an intense negotiation in which the transfer fee we agreed ultimately demonstrated our ambitions for a sporting result,” Sparta technical director Gerard Nijkamp said on the club’s website. “Arnaud still has an ongoing contract, but we wanted to sign him as a Sparta player not only for the rest of the season, but also for the following seasons.”

“With Arnaud, we strengthen ourselves with a multifunctional player. He can be used in several positions in midfield and his running ability can be an important link between defense and attack. At NAC Breda, he has already proven himself in the past at the level of the Eredivisie, we believe he will show that. Also in Rotterdam.

Verschueren made the switch from NAC Breda to Lommel in the summer of 2020. Prior to that, the 24-year-old from Antwerp was active in youth academy in Lierse, Westerlo and OH Leuven. At Lommel, the midfielder has been a strong standout in 41 official matches in the last one and a half season.
