Texas State University (TXST) is expanding its aviation education partnership with US Aviation Academy to include a flight training location in Conroe, north of Houston. The expansion will allow students pursuing a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences (B.A.A.S.) in Aviation Science to combine university coursework with professional pilot training beginning in Spring 2027.
Applications are now open for the Spring 2027 semester, providing prospective pilots in the Greater Houston area with another pathway to earning a college degree while completing Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)-approved flight training.
Texas State University Adds Conroe to Aviation Training Network
The new arrangement extends an existing partnership between Texas State University and US Aviation Academy, an FAA Part 141-approved flight training provider headquartered in Denton, Texas.
Conroe becomes the fifth US Aviation Academy training location participating in the university’s Aviation Science program.
The four previously announced locations, which began accepting students for the Fall 2026 intake, are:
-
Denton, Texas
-
New Braunfels, Texas
-
Atlanta, Georgia
-
Kansas City, Kansas
The addition of Conroe expands the program’s reach into the Houston metropolitan area, including communities such as The Woodlands and surrounding parts of southeast Texas.
The partnership was initially established in June 2026, bringing together academic instruction and structured flight training through participating academy locations.
Flight Training Costs at Conroe Total $111,065
Texas State University’s published flight training schedule for the Conroe location lists seven fixed-wing aviation courses with combined fees of $111,065 through Spring 2027.
These fees cover practical flight instruction and associated training activities but do not include university tuition.
Training Covers Private, Commercial and Multi-Engine Operations
The program includes instruction across several stages of professional pilot development, including private pilot certification, instrument flying, commercial flight operations, flight instructor qualifications and multi-engine aircraft training.
Students progress through the required aviation courses while completing the academic requirements of their degree.
Texas State University notes that flight training fees are subject to annual adjustments, meaning the total cost may change for future enrollment periods.
Prospective applicants should account for both university tuition and flight training expenses when evaluating the overall cost of the program.
Aviation Science Degree Combines Online Learning With Flight Instruction
Texas State University’s B.A.A.S. in Aviation Science requires students to complete 120 credit hours.
The degree combines academic coursework with practical aviation training conducted through FAA Part 141-approved flight training partners.
Students enrolled in the program can complete their university coursework through TXST’s Accelerated Online Program while attending in-person flight training at their designated academy location.
Flexible Education Model for Aspiring Pilots
This structure allows students to pursue a university degree without relocating to Texas State University’s main campus in San Marcos for all their coursework.
Instead, students can access academic instruction online while receiving hands-on flight training at an approved facility closer to their communities.
FAA Part 141 flight schools operate under approved training curricula and oversight requirements established by the federal aviation regulator.
The partnership provides a structured educational route for students seeking both academic credentials and the flight qualifications needed to pursue professional aviation careers.
Conroe Campus Provides Access to Houston-Area Flight Training
US Aviation Academy’s Conroe training center operates at Conroe-North Houston Regional Airport (KCXO), a general aviation airport serving the northern Houston region.
The facility already provides multiple professional pilot training programs, including private pilot instruction, instrument rating courses, commercial single-engine and multi-engine training, and flight instructor preparation.
Its location offers access to prospective aviation students from Houston, Conroe, The Woodlands and nearby communities.
The expansion also gives Texas State University an additional training location within one of the country’s largest metropolitan areas.
US Aviation Academy Continues Expanding Its Training Operations
US Aviation Academy provides professional pilot training, aircraft maintenance technician education and aircraft dispatcher training across multiple locations in the United States.
Established under its current ownership in 2006, the Denton-based organization has expanded its aviation education operations over the past two decades.
As of June 2026, the academy reported operating more than 275 aircraft across 12 campuses nationwide.
Its partnership with Texas State University represents part of its broader involvement in aviation education programs that combine flight training with college-level academic study.
Spring 2027 Applications Now Open
With Conroe added to the participating training locations, Texas State University and US Aviation Academy are extending their Aviation Science degree pathway to students throughout the Greater Houston region.
The Spring 2027 expansion provides another option for aspiring pilots seeking structured FAA-approved flight instruction alongside a bachelor’s degree.
Students considering enrollment will need to evaluate the published flight training fees, university tuition and program requirements before beginning their aviation studies.
