This makes Laax the first self-sufficient ski area in the Alps
The package of measures on the table here is as broad as possible. Every aspect is addressed, no matter how small. With the goal of entering the next decade as a 100 percent sustainable winter sports destination.
A large portion of carbon dioxide emissions during a winter sports holiday are emitted during the trip itself. There is an individual responsibility to make that trip as clean as possible: and the easiest way to do that is to drive electric. Significant investments have been made in LAX Charging stations. Shipping on the site is no problem.
Navigation in the area is in order. The three villages (Flims, Laax and Valera) are connected by ski bus, and it is of course better to use them than to take your own car. Eventually, everything here will be electric.
All ski lifts are already working here green energy. There is even an electric snow machine that outfits the ski area and there will be more to come.
New mountain stations are also being built, exclusively where possible Wood from the region. Everything that can be made with wood (instead of concrete) becomes local wood. This is also reflected in the mountain huts, restaurants and newer hotels.
Huts are found almost exclusively in mountain huts Local dishes (with local ingredients) on the menu, which is much better than the food that has come a long way. Graubünden has many specialties such as Pizokel, Capuns and Bündner Gerstensuppe and you will find them everywhere here. Just like raclette and cheese fondue of course. The hotel restaurant we stayed at (the wonderful Riders Hotel) is completely vegetarian.
They also know in Laax that a lot of solar energy is needed to make the entire ski area – and villages – run on this energy source alone. However, the problem for a long time was that there were not enough roofs to fill them because there were too few buildings. That's why there will be a special river on the Vorap Glacier Field with solar panels, largely supported by the Swiss government. We are already working on this at the moment. By 2025, it should already provide at least 10 percent of the total energy needs and in 2026 it will be fully operational and responsible for 100 percent of the total energy of the Weisse Arena Gruppe. Good to know: This was also done in consultation with the residents of the area, the vast majority of whom support this idea.
Winter sports with a green heart
This will make Flims-Laax the first self-sufficient ski area in the Alps, and thus a model for other winter sports destinations. What you should know as winter sports lovers above all is that you can spend the holiday here with peace of mind and a green heart. As long as you ensure a clean trip there yourself.
