Pakistan International Airlines will expand its London schedule from four to seven weekly flights beginning October 27, giving the carrier daily service to the British capital as it rebuilds its presence in one of its most important international markets.
The expanded operation will include five weekly departures from Islamabad International Airport and two from Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore. All seven flights will serve London Heathrow Airport.
The additional three services represent a 75% increase in PIA’s weekly London frequency. The state-owned airline currently operates four flights a week to London.
PIA Introduces Daily London Connectivity
Under the revised schedule, Islamabad will serve as the primary departure point for PIA’s London operation, accounting for five of the seven weekly flights.
The remaining two services will depart from Lahore, providing travelers from Punjab and surrounding areas with a direct connection to the United Kingdom’s capital and largest aviation market.
Moving to daily service is expected to give passengers greater flexibility when arranging business trips, family visits and vacations. It could also make PIA a more competitive option for travelers who might otherwise connect through major aviation hubs in the Middle East or Europe.
Pakistan and Britain have extensive economic, cultural and family connections, supported by a large Pakistani community in the UK. That relationship has historically made British cities—including London, Manchester and Birmingham—important destinations for Pakistani airlines.
Stronger Demand Supports Capacity Increase
PIA said it is introducing the additional flights in response to rising passenger demand and increased confidence in its international services.
The decision suggests that traffic has strengthened since the airline restored direct service to London in March 2026. The higher frequency also gives PIA an opportunity to capture a larger share of passenger demand on routes between Pakistan and the UK.
Direct flights can be particularly attractive to passengers traveling with families or significant luggage, as they eliminate the need to transfer between aircraft at an intermediate airport.
The expanded schedule is also part of PIA’s broader effort to restore international connectivity after years of restrictions in several major aviation markets.
Regulatory Changes Enabled PIA’s UK Return
PIA’s expansion follows a series of regulatory decisions that allowed the airline to resume operations in Britain after an absence of nearly five years.
The UK removed Pakistan from its Air Safety List on July 16, 2025. That decision permitted Pakistani carriers to apply for authorization to restart commercial flights to the country, although individual airlines still needed to obtain the required operational approvals.
PIA secured its UK authorization in September 2025. Manchester became the first destination in the airline’s restored British network, followed by the resumption of direct London flights in March 2026.
Restrictions Followed 2020 Karachi Crash
The earlier restrictions were imposed following concerns about Pakistan’s aviation safety oversight and pilot licensing system. Those concerns intensified after a PIA Airbus A320 crashed in Karachi in May 2020, killing 97 people.
The European Union Aviation Safety Agency also suspended PIA’s authorization to operate in Europe. That restriction was lifted in November 2024, clearing an important regulatory obstacle as the airline worked to rebuild its European and British networks.
The return to the UK represented a significant step for PIA because of the market’s commercial value and the strong flow of passengers between the two countries.
London Expansion Advances International Rebuilding
The October schedule increase will mark the next phase of PIA’s return to British skies. By expanding to seven weekly flights, the airline will provide daily connectivity while strengthening Islamabad’s role as the main gateway for its London operation.
The added Lahore services will preserve a direct travel option for passengers in Pakistan’s second-largest city and its surrounding region.
PIA’s ability to sustain the expanded schedule will depend on continued passenger demand, operational reliability and compliance with international safety requirements. However, the addition of three weekly flights indicates that the airline sees room for further growth following its return to London.
The new schedule takes effect October 27, when PIA’s London operation will officially increase from four weekly services to one flight per day.
