The United States is not yet sure who is responsible for the massive ransomware attack that hit companies around the world. This is what President Biden said. Hundreds of companies in the United States have been affected, and several companies in Europe have also reported their victims. Swedish supermarket chain Coop is paralyzed by the attack.

“The first thought was that it’s not the Russian government, but we’re not sure yet,” Biden said in response to the attack. He ordered his intelligence services to investigate the matter. Biden says the United States will respond if it turns out that Russia was responsible for the attack.

    REvil Group

Computer security experts said earlier that it appears that Russia’s REvil group was behind the attack. The US police agency, the FBI, holds this group responsible for a cyber attack on the Brazilian meat giant JBS, two months ago.

In a ransomware attack, or ransomware, computers are removed (held hostage) by criminals until the affected company pays a ransom. The attack likely started with Kaseya, a company that provides software for managing computers remotely. The National Cyber Security Center issued a warning last night.

We explain how a ransomware attack works in this video:
