The United Kingdom and Ireland are the only remaining favorites for the 2028 European Football Championship

The 2028 European Football Championship is likely to be held in the UK and Ireland. The European Football Association announced that the only competitor, Turkey, withdrew on Wednesday from its candidacy to organize this tournament. The country will focus on winning the 2032 European Football Championship with Italy. UEFA has yet to formally approve the UK and Ireland's joint bid as well as Turkey and Italy's bid. This is expected to happen on October 10.

The FIFA World Cup was held in England in 1966. In 1996, England organized the European Championship, and in 2021, England's Wembley Stadium and Scotland's Hampden Park are two of the eleven football stadiums where the European Championship has been held. This tournament was held in stadiums spread across several European countries. The European Football Championship has never before been held in Wales, Northern Ireland and Ireland.

The 24 participating nations will play their matches in 2028 in London (again at Wembley, but also at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium), Manchester (Manchester City Stadium), Liverpool (Everton Stadium), Newcastle, Birmingham, Belfast, Cardiff and Glasgow (national team ).
