On the first day of the new tennis season, Spain and Great Britain won their first group match in the Fed Cup. Spain defeated Brazil 2-1 in Perth, Australia, while the British proved their strength against Australia 2-1 at the end of the day.
Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina put his country in the lead by defeating Thiago Siboth Wilde in singles with a score of 6-4, 6-0. Then Brazilian Beatrice Haddad Maya equalized the score. She won a duel with Sara Sorribes Tormo. The decisive mixed doubles match ultimately went to Spain 6-4, 7-5.
The match between Great Britain and Australia has already been decided after the two singles matches. British Cameron Norrie won in an exciting match over Alex de Minaur: 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (2).
