As you might have read in the weather forecast yesterday, a lot of snow has already fallen in the Western Alps today. In many French and Swiss ski areas, heavy snow falls on the highlands, but due to the high snow line, this unfortunately means heavy rain in the valleys.

Snow and rain in the Western Alps

Yesterday it became increasingly dense from the west and since last night there has been a lot of rain in the Western Alps. Since the air is still very soft, the snow line is very high. Snow only falls from an altitude of 1700-2300 metres, and a bucket of rain falls below that. During the day the snow line drops to an altitude of 1000-1400 metres. For now, it's mainly about enjoying high-altitude snow photos. At high altitudes, between 20 and 40 cm of snow may fall today! Also take into account the strong southwesterly winds. During the day strong winds blow over the mountains. More snow will fall again in this part of the Alpine region from Sunday/Monday.

    Thick chips

I can only hope that the snow line will drop soon and the valleys will turn white again. For now some great photos from the top ski areas and villages.
