Rumor: The start of the 2021 season has been postponed due to doubts about GP Australia

Formula 1 recently uploaded a tentative calendar showing that the 2021 season will feature 23 races. However, rumors are now emerging that the season will start later than planned; RaceFans has stated that the continuation of the Australian Grand Prix is already in question.

The Formula 1 season started long ago in Melbourne, at the Albert Park Street circuit. That was the intention too last year, but the event was canceled due to the coronavirus fallout. Fans lined up while the event was canceled.

Just before the end of the year, Australia took very drastic measures to ensure that the virus – which has already killed 1.8 million people worldwide – did not suffer a backlash. Formula 1 employees will have to quarantine for fourteen days in Australia before the event begins, or they will have to charter flights themselves to live in the so-called “biosphere” there, which we also saw in Abu Dhabi. However, both options have serious financial and logistical implications.

So it is not surprising that ticket sales for the event – which was initially scheduled for March 21, 2021 – have yet to commence. However, all hope is not lost. For the event to continue, work on Albert Park must begin at the end of January. Thus the organization and all stakeholders have two weeks to make the decision.

If the season is canceled, the opening round of the 2021 season will take place at the Bahrain International Circuit, where the Formula 1 race has been running less than a month ago.
