The regional surcharge (“surcharge”) on car tax in North Holland will rise by 14 percent. This is the first increase in 14 years. Moreover, the road tax in North Holland is the lowest compared to all other provinces.

The road tax consists of a fixed part that applies to everyone (depending on the weight of the car, year of manufacture and type of fuel) and a regional “surcharge”. All provinces, except Groningen and Drenthe, are increasing their car tax surcharge rates. It appears from Data from CBS.

The national government and the provinces expect to collect more than €6.8 billion from road tax in 2024. This is about €422 million (6.6 percent) more than in 2023. Of this, the government expects to collect more than €4.9 billion. Below are the 2024 prices per province for an “average” 1200k passenger car (petrol). This is where you place the province of North Holland to rise Outside.

Less regional surcharge per weight class.

Older cars that are forty years or older are exempt from the car tax, and this year it also applies to fully electric cars with no direct CO2 emissions. The scheme is likely to expire in 2025. Hybrid cars with emissions of up to 50 grams of CO2 per kilometer will get a 50 percent discount on road tax until 2024.
