National breakthrough in 2013
The trio was founded in 2010 after several holiday jam sessions in the hippie town of Byron Bay. Playing together was a huge success, because they soon released a number of EPs. Songs like “Paris Collides” and “We Left” were already doing well in their native Australia. The big hit Down Under for RÜFÜS DU SOL came only after the release of the first album: atlas (2013). The album even debuted at #1 on the charts!
The summer album is full of Ibiza house influences. It’s good to mention that atlas It came out in August. In fact, it is winter in Australia. The first single “Take Me” really describes the band’s tendency to take on new adventures and discover places.
International breakthrough for RÜFÜS DU SOL in 2016
In 2016, their second hugely successful album came out Thrives From. Their first single, You Were Right, went viral a little earlier. So far, this is their biggest hit on Spotify with over 146 million streams. With the advent of “Innerbloom” of course. Still good for 123 million streams. On YouTube, the roles are reversed and especially the high-scoring “Innerbloom” clip. These images are just as elusive as gentlemen’s music, with countless abstract images of earthly materials flowing into one another.
Fun fact: At first the band went through life like RÜFÜS. Until they went on a tour of the United States and came across the same name.
