Captain Paul Haarhuis has considered who will be allowed to play the qualifier against Switzerland on behalf of the Netherlands in the Davis Cup. He selected Tallon Grekpoor, Botic van de Zandschulp, Gijs Brouwer and doubles specialists Wesley Koolhof and Jean-Julien Rojer.
A home match against the Swiss national team will be held on February 2 and 3 in Groningen. The 42-year-old Roger will be present at the Davis Cup Finals, just as he did in November, and will be favored over Matoi Middelkop.
Groningen
“It's great to be playing in Groningen again. Last year we really enjoyed the orange atmosphere in Martiniplaza,” Haarhuis said on the tennis federation's website. “The support of the fans is very important in this national competition.”
The Netherlands had a good year in the Davis Cup. She reached the finals in November, but was eliminated in the quarter-finals by Italy. That country eventually won the tournament.
Switzerland
The Swiss team is not as strong as it could be. Stan Wawrinka and Dominik Stricker will not come to Groningen. Captain Severin Luthi selects Marc Andrea Hausler, Alexandre Richard, Leandro Redi and Antoine Pellet. Hausler is No. 194 in the world.
