Stand up paper bag for dishwasher tablets
Mundi International Packaging and Paper Group, together with brand owner Reckitt, have developed and launched an innovative paper-based sachet for the Finish brand of dishwasher tablets.
The new packaging solution contains 75 percent less plastic than its predecessor made entirely of plastic. Plastic savings will amount to more than 2,000 tons annually. The change is part of Reckitt’s ambitions to halve the use of virgin plastic in packaging by 2030.
Using paper packaging for dishwasher tablets has always been a challenge, because water-soluble tablets must be stored completely dry in a resealable, durable, and waterproof outer package.
Mondi’s EcoSolutions replaces 75 percent of the plastic with high-quality paper. The remaining 25 percent of the plastic in the packaging is used partly to strengthen the paper structure and provide a barrier that ensures the quality and integrity of the final product, partly to achieve airtightness and moisture resistance.
Finish’s new paper packaging will initially be launched in the Carrefour supermarket chain in France, where the packaging will be recyclable in existing paper recycling flows.
