Through these European resources, regional companies in the North Netherlands are supported in cross-border innovation projects, thus reducing the distance to Europe regarding the circular topic. This is the first time that the European Commission has issued this support. Comes from the program “Horizon”; A particularly competitive programme, focused on excellence. The European Commission sees the development of regional innovation valleys as an important tool to position Europe as a leading player on the global innovation platform. By granting this support, North Holland proves that it has internal quality.

As a regional innovation valley, the North Netherlands becomes visible as an innovative region in Europe, and the provinces of Drenthe, Groningen and Frieslan are positioned as a progressive place where broad prosperity, social challenges and innovation go hand in hand.
The support serves as recognition and provides a direct relationship with the European Commission and a network for North Dutch entrepreneurs in innovation development and regions. This could help in seizing future opportunities and linking them with other European initiatives.
From the summer onwards, the project will start strengthening the regional innovation ecosystem in North Holland (e.g. by better connecting companies to knowledge institutions) and connecting it to the European ecosystem. To then search for, support and connect innovation projects from companies in North Holland with Europe.
