Heesen Yachts, the luxury yacht manufacturer from Oss, can no longer get new yacht-building equipment. This is because there are sanctions against the Russian owner Vagit Alekperov. Since Alekperov is on the Australia and UK sanctions list, British engine maker Rolls-Royce will no longer supply the company.
Russian billionaire Alekperov is one of three so-called ultimate beneficial owners of Heesen yachts. That is, he controls the company in the end.
Briefs
At the end of last month, the company tried to get rid of the Russians to avoid sanctions. To speed things up, Heesen wanted to transfer all of the Russian stock to a new enterprise.
This failed because the Amsterdam notary did not want to cooperate. After summary proceedings, the judge ruled in favor of the notary’s office. So Heesen is still related to Alekperov.
This means Heesen can hardly get enough new equipment to build their yachts. “Some of our suppliers are bound by UK laws, which means some of them cannot meet their obligations,” a company spokeswoman said.
Putin’s friend
Alekperov was a former deputy oil minister of the Soviet Union, and he made a fortune from the Lukoil oil company he founded. Recently, the businessman resigned from the position of CEO of the company. He is also seen as a friend of Putin.
The company employs in Os about a thousand people.
