After a disappointing start to the season, Mercedes will try to resolve the issues with its Mercedes W15 F1 car through extensive testing. The next race on the Formula 1 calendar, the Australian Grand Prix, will be used for this purpose.

Expectations at Mercedes were high before the start of the season. After two difficult seasons in which only one victory was achieved, the new Formula 1 car, the Mercedes W15, had to solve the problems of the past and ensure that it wins at least one more time.

At Mercedes, they want to solve two weaknesses of the Mercedes W15, the bounce of the car with little fuel in the car, as well as the lack of stability in fast turns, which was especially noticeable in Saudi Arabia. Due to the lack of testing opportunities, Mercedes decided to conduct testing during the Australian Grand Prix to solve the problems.

“There is definitely data that we are taking from Jeddah and analysing,” says Andrew Shovlin in a Mercedes video in which the team takes a look at the Saudi Arabia award. “We are also looking forward to the race dates in Bahrain, the testing in Bahrain, and we will make a plan to approach the first practice session in Melbourne. However, that will not be based solely on what we did in Jeddah.

“There is a lot of work to be done in our aerodynamics department and in our Vehicle Dynamics department. We will try to design some experiments that will hopefully give us the right direction to achieve performance.
