May 27, 2021 – Orkon Kokjo and Khalil Dervisoglu showed themselves in front of the national coach Senol Gunes on Thursday evening. During the first friendly match before the European Championship, both players were important. Turkey beat Azerbaijan 2-1, and newcomer Dervisoglu was meticulous and Kocjo helped. All goals were scored in Alanya in the first half.

Azerbaijan took the brutal initiative on Turkish soil. After 29 minutes of play, Emin Mahmudov took a surprising 0-1. Visitors could not enjoy this pride of place for long. Dervisoglu nodded in the equalizing goal from a free-kick from Gokjo and Turkey even managed to grab a tea with a 2–1 lead. Kahn took care of the lead shortly before the break.

Kökcü and Dervisoglu started at the base and were taken to the side by Gunes in the 67th minute of play. Feyenoord and Galatasaray players, however, would have a good sense of the first exhibition match. The question, however, is whether Harlemmer and Rotterdamer can report in the European Championships. Gunes must shoot down four more players.

Turkey plays in the European Championships against Italy, Wales and Switzerland. Training matches will follow, against Guinea and Moldova in the coming weeks. The Turks will open the European Championship on Friday 11 June at 9 pm against the Italians. Kokjo only played his fourth international match today, while Dervisoglu revived his international debut with a goal.
