The first reports about the development of the project appeared last year, but the studio neither confirmed nor denied its existence.

The upcoming fifth film in the blockbuster series will provide $79.2 million in economic support to Queensland, as well as create 505 jobs for local actors and crew and 750 additional jobs.

Additional details about the project remain classified, but initial reports last year suggested it might be the title son of Kong they will get. It is unclear if Adam Wingard will return as a director or not. The project was again produced by Eric McLeod. MacLeod said:
