Taiwanese Carrier Adds Five Weekly Flights to Indonesia’s Top Leisure Destination Beginning October 2026

TAIPEI — Starlux Airlines will launch direct service between Taipei and Bali this fall, adding one of Asia’s most sought-after leisure destinations to its growing Southeast Asia network as the premium Taiwanese carrier pushes deeper into regional and long-haul expansion.

The airline said it will begin operating flights between Taipei Taoyuan International Airport and Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar on Oct. 1, 2026. Tickets for the route are already on sale.

The new service will operate five times per week aboard Airbus A321neo aircraft, with outbound flight JX765 departing Taipei at 10:10 a.m. and arriving in Bali at 3:40 p.m. Return flight JX766 will depart Denpasar at 5:20 p.m. and land in Taipei at 10:50 p.m.

The Bali launch marks another step in Starlux’s rapid network buildout and reinforces the airline’s strategy of pairing premium regional service with expanding long-haul connectivity.

Bali Route Supports Broader Hub Strategy

Starlux said the Bali route is intended to serve both Taiwan-based leisure travelers and transit passengers connecting through Taipei from long-haul markets.

Chief Executive Glenn Chai said Bali remains one of the most popular tourism destinations globally and continues to attract strong demand from both Taiwanese and Western travelers.

The airline expects the route to benefit from growing transfer traffic through Taipei as it expands long-haul operations to North America and Europe, allowing the carrier to position Taiwan as an alternative transit hub for travelers heading between Western markets and Southeast Asia.

That strategy could help Starlux differentiate itself from larger regional competitors by funneling premium leisure and business traffic through Taipei rather than relying solely on traditional transit hubs in the Middle East or Southeast Asia.

Airbus A321neo Selected for Efficiency and Passenger Comfort

    Narrow-Body Fleet Supports Regional Growth

The Bali service will be operated using the Airbus A321neo, part of Starlux’s modern narrow-body fleet designed for regional routes.

The aircraft offers improved fuel efficiency, lower emissions and upgraded cabin comfort compared with previous-generation narrow-body jets, aligning with the airline’s broader fleet strategy of deploying modern aircraft across short- and medium-haul markets.

Using the A321neo on the Bali route allows Starlux to match capacity with expected demand while maintaining operating efficiency as the carrier tests market performance.

Southeast Asia Network to Surpass 13 Destinations

The Bali launch will push Starlux’s Southeast Asia network beyond 13 destinations, further strengthening its presence in one of Asia’s most competitive aviation markets.

The airline has pursued aggressive regional expansion in recent years, using a combination of new aircraft deliveries and premium service positioning to challenge more established carriers in the region.

Its Southeast Asia strategy focuses heavily on direct point-to-point connectivity, appealing to leisure travelers and smaller groups seeking nonstop access to vacation destinations without additional layovers.

Additional International Expansion Planned for 2026

Bali is one of three new routes planned by Starlux for 2026.

The airline is also set to launch service to Busan in June and Prague in August, with Prague representing Starlux’s first destination in Europe.

The European expansion marks a significant milestone for the airline, which launched operations only in 2020 and has since expanded rapidly despite global aviation industry disruptions.

Together, the Bali, Busan and Prague additions signal that Starlux is entering a new growth phase beyond its initial regional focus and increasingly positioning itself as a broader international network carrier.

Bali Remains One of Asia’s Strongest Leisure Markets

Indonesia’s Bali continues to rank among the world’s most visited island destinations, attracting millions of international visitors annually with its beach resorts, cultural landmarks and outdoor attractions.

Ngurah Rai International Airport serves as the island’s primary international gateway and remains one of Southeast Asia’s busiest tourism-focused airports.

Popular visitor areas include Seminyak, Canggu and Ubud, while luxury travelers continue to favor resort-heavy districts such as Nusa Dua and Jimbaran.

The island’s enduring tourism demand, combined with its popularity among travelers from Taiwan, Europe and North America, makes it a strategically attractive addition for Starlux as it broadens its network.

Competitive Pressure Rising in Regional Aviation

The Bali launch comes as airlines across Asia-Pacific race to capture resurging leisure demand and rebuild international networks following the post-pandemic travel recovery.

For Starlux, continued route additions suggest confidence in premium travel demand and in Taipei’s ability to support greater transit volumes.

With Southeast Asia expansion accelerating and long-haul markets opening, the Taiwan-based carrier appears increasingly focused on establishing itself as a serious competitor in the region’s premium aviation segment.

If you want, I can also make it more Reuters/Bloomberg-style (tighter and more wire-service-like) or more magazine/feature-style depending on where you plan to publish it.
