Gucci is a brand that has been around for a hundred years and is still very popular. And this popularity only increases as you can enjoy watching “House of Gucci” in cinemas. Searches for vintage clothing for the brand increased by 270 percent. We’ve picked some great Gucci pre-owned items that you can now check out.
Italian brand Gucci recently celebrated its centenary. That’s an achievement in itself, but the brand, mentioned in over 22,000 songs, is now once again proving its niche in fashion. House of Gucci, starring Lady Gaga, appeared in cinemas only last week, yet a significant increase in sales of the brand’s merchandise has already been observed. Especially when it comes to selling used items.

The used platform Wethrift saw a 270 percent increase in searches for vintage pieces from the Italian luxury brand. Other US platforms also saw an increase, such as Open for Vintage, Vestiaire Collective, Rewind Vintage and Farfetch. The latter even saw 1,500 percent growth in the number of people searching for a vintage Gucci, according to Vice ID.

Lady Gaga definitely has something to do with that. The pop star with 50 million followers on Instagram plays Maurizio Gucci’s wife in the movie, Patrizia Reggiani. Janti Yates, who is responsible for costumes for the film, estimates that for Gaga alone, about 75 to 100 Gucci outfits were used in the filming. Enough material for inspiration, then.
More and more used
The increase is currently only occurring in the US, UK, Italy, Denmark, Hong Kong and Singapore, but it won’t be long before Belgium follows suit. In fact, we Belgians are the first when it comes to buying used clothes, if you compare it to the rest of Europe. This is evidenced by research conducted by e-commerce company Veepee among 6,000 people, including 600 Belgians. 59 percent of Belgians buy second-hand things, compared to the European average of 40 percent. 75 percent do so for economic reasons and 59 percent to reduce their carbon footprint.
It also appears that second-hand enthusiasts mainly use niche apps and sites, such as Vinted or Vestiaire Collective, and markets. Still, only 32 percent of buyers go to a real second-hand store.
We’re already showing you some vintage Gucci items that you can buy online.
