Ferrari Formula 1 driver Carlos Sainz is still “not moving freely” and may not be “ready to withstand the stress” of a Formula 1 race ahead of his scheduled return to the Australian Grand Prix. Sainz was ruled out of the final race in Saudi Arabia after having his appendix removed, with Ferrari reserve driver Oliver Pearman taking his place and finishing seventh on the streets of Jeddah.
The Spanish star is aiming to return to action at the Australian Grand Prix this weekend and has traveled to Melbourne with ambitions of once again taking his place in the Ferrari cockpit, with Ferrari themselves stating: “Carlos Sainz will return to the car as I expected.”
However, fresh concerns have been raised after Sainz was seen “not moving freely” by Formula 1 photographer Kim Elman, who was not convinced he would be ready to return this weekend after speaking to the 29-year-old. “Twelve days ago, Carlos Sainz had his appendix removed in Jeddah,” Elman wrote in a post on social media. “On Wednesday I photographed him at Albert Park after returning from a bike ride around the track with his team. He got off.” “On his bike, it seemed to me that he was not moving freely. I spoke to him for a few minutes and I am not 100% sure that his body is ready to withstand the effort of a Formula 1 race.”
