Airline Adds Second Daily Airbus A350 Service Between Dubai and Colombo

Emirates will introduce a second daily Airbus A350 service on its Dubai–Colombo route beginning August 8, significantly expanding Premium Economy availability for travelers between the United Arab Emirates and Sri Lanka. The move comes as the Dubai-based carrier marks 40 years of operations in Sri Lanka and continues to invest in one of its key South Asian markets.

The airline will replace the Boeing 777 currently operating flights EK648 and EK649 with an Airbus A350, creating two daily services on the route equipped with Emirates’ Premium Economy cabin. The upgrade effectively doubles the number of daily flights offering the premium travel option between Dubai International Airport and Colombo’s Bandaranaike International Airport.

Emirates currently operates four daily flights between Dubai and Colombo using a combination of Boeing 777 and Airbus A350 aircraft. The latest deployment is expected to provide travelers with greater flexibility while increasing capacity on a route that serves both business and leisure demand.

Flight Schedule Expands Premium Economy Availability

Under the updated schedule, flight EK648 will depart Dubai at 4:10 p.m. local time and arrive in Colombo at 10:10 p.m. The return service, EK649, will leave Colombo at 2:55 a.m. and land in Dubai at 5:50 a.m.

The new A350 service will operate alongside flights EK654 and EK655, which are already served by the aircraft type. Together, the two daily A350 rotations will offer customers additional options to travel in Premium Economy while maintaining access to Emirates’ broader network.

Emirates Strengthens Presence in Sri Lanka

Emirates continues to maintain a significant presence in Sri Lanka, operating three daily non-stop flights between Colombo and Dubai, as well as one daily service via Malé in the Maldives.

Alongside the two A350-operated services, the airline will continue flying Boeing 777 aircraft on flights EK650/651 and EK652/653. The addition of a second A350 follows the aircraft’s debut on the Colombo route in March 2025, when Emirates first introduced its Premium Economy product to Sri Lankan travelers.

The expansion underscores Emirates’ long-term commitment to the market and highlights the carrier’s strategy of deploying newer aircraft on routes with growing demand.

    Features of the Airbus A350

The Airbus A350 is the newest aircraft in Emirates’ all-widebody fleet and incorporates several of the airline’s latest onboard technologies and cabin enhancements.

Passengers traveling on the aircraft benefit from brighter cabins, wider aisles, higher ceilings, and one of the quietest twin-aisle environments in commercial aviation. The aircraft also features 4K and 4K HDR touchscreens, upgraded connectivity options, and in-flight entertainment available in multiple languages, including Tamil and Sinhala.

These enhancements are designed to improve both passenger comfort and operational efficiency, reflecting broader industry trends toward modernized long-haul travel experiences.

Premium Economy Becomes a Key Offering

Premium Economy has emerged as one of Emirates’ fastest-growing cabin products, offering travelers an option between Economy and Business Class.

The cabin is configured in a 2-3-2 seating layout and features cream leather seats with woodgrain accents inspired by the airline’s Business Class design. Each seat provides 19.5 inches of width, a 40-inch pitch, an 8-inch recline, and a six-way adjustable headrest.

Passengers also receive access to a 13.3-inch personal entertainment screen, welcome beverages, seasonal dining menus, a broad beverage selection, and premium travel amenities. Additional benefits include priority boarding, dedicated check-in facilities at Dubai International Airport, and baggage allowances of up to 35 kilograms.

Connecting Sri Lanka to a Global Network

The expanded A350 operation strengthens Emirates’ ability to connect Sri Lanka with nearly 140 destinations across its global network. The airline has long played a role in facilitating tourism, business travel, and trade links between Sri Lanka and international markets.

As Emirates celebrates four decades of service to Colombo, the deployment of a second daily Airbus A350 represents a significant milestone in its Sri Lankan operations. The increased Premium Economy capacity and enhanced onboard experience are expected to appeal to both corporate travelers and tourists seeking greater comfort on journeys between South Asia, the Middle East, and destinations beyond.
