CD Projekt Red announced during an Investor Day presentation that Cyberpunk 2077 has reached 25 million copies sold. A year ago, the counter was still at 20 million copies sold.
The popular expansion called Phantom Liberty, which was released a week ago, has already sold 3 million copies. The Phantom Liberty is priced at €29.99 and is selling very well. CD Projekt Red reports that the studio’s games have now crossed the 100 million copies sold mark. This is Cyberpunk 2077 including the spin-off games The Witcher 1-3 and The Witcher. Sales of The Witcher 3 reached 25 million copies in 4.5 years. So Cyberpunk 2077 is selling faster than The Witcher was at the time.
The Cyberpunk 2077 sequel is currently in the concept stage at CD Projekt Red Boston and CD Projekt Red Vancouver studios. Half of the team working on the upcoming Cyberpunk game, codenamed Orion, will continue to work in Poland. The other half participates through studios in the United States. For Project Orion, the team will switch to Unreal Engine 5 and will not use the proprietary RedEngine that was used to make Cyberpunk 2077 a reality.
“This project is at the conceptual design level at the moment, and will be designed by a team of veterans who were responsible for fine-tuning Cyberpunk 2077 and designing Phantom Liberty.”
“We will be working in the North American locations, Vancouver and Boston, where the team leadership is already in place. In late 2024, we will be working with teams of several dozen people, while as a goal, half of the developers will work from the northern United States and the other half outside Poland.
