Memorizes
Before the election, any criticism of Peter Omtzgut was taboo, but now that the leader of the National Security Council does not want to cooperate in a government with a far-right majority, the knives have been sharpened. Parties that want to govern with the National Security Council speak out to De Telegraaf. The paper, which wants a government of PVV, BBB, VVD and NSC and has put writer Ronald Plasterk on leave to make that possible, has been very upset with Umtzigt since the talks collapsed.
In the podcast “Afhameren”, Wouter de Winther airs the formation's dirty laundry. Regarding unsung “heroes”, the political commentator for De Telegraaf newspaper depicts Omtzigt as a psychological case. He added: “What happened at the negotiating table was very strange. “People were often left completely confused,” de Winter says.
Umtzigt screamed, had “regular crying spells” and often ran away. “Then either Yesilgoz, Blasterk, or Van Heegum had to follow them again.” According to De Winther, the negotiating partners at the National Security Council conducted “all kinds of medical analyzes” on Omtzigt. “The people who sat with him at the negotiating table remarked: ‘Wow, this is much worse than we expected, and it is actually impossible to work with him.’” De Winther notes that many members of the NSC faction are now also convinced “that there is no terrain to navigate” with Umzigt.
In 2021, Umtzigt was also the target of a whispering campaign, at the time from the CDA. Then SP MP Renske Leijten spoke out against these anonymous smear campaigns – with little result, as it turned out.
The fact that the main players in the formation are now committing a new character assassination in Umtzigt with the help of De Telegraaf seems to indicate that they have little hope that the talks with the National Security Council will reach a successful outcome. They're already busy cleaning up their streets, and De Winther is helping with the cleanup.
