Cathay Pacific will deploy refurbished Boeing 777-300ER aircraft featuring its new Aria Suite Business Class on selected flights between Perth and Hong Kong, strengthening the carrier’s premium offering in one of Australia’s most geographically isolated major cities.
The upgraded aircraft will operate selected CX171 and CX140 services between Perth Airport and Hong Kong International Airport from October 26, 2026, through March 27, 2027. The seasonal deployment comes as the Hong Kong-based airline expands its schedule and continues a major investment program covering aircraft, cabins, airport lounges and digital services.
Refurbished Boeing 777 Introduces Aria Suite to Perth
Cathay Pacific’s refurbished Boeing 777-300ER will feature 45 Aria Suite Business Class seats in a 1-2-1 configuration. Every passenger in the cabin will have direct aisle access.
The design retains the reverse-herringbone layout found in Cathay Pacific’s existing long-haul Business Class cabin while introducing several privacy, storage and technology improvements.
Each Aria Suite includes a privacy door, adjustable soft LED lighting, wireless charging and additional personal storage. Passengers will also have access to a 24-inch 4K inflight entertainment screen, which Cathay Pacific describes as the largest screen it has installed aboard an aircraft.
The retrofitted Boeing 777-300ER will accommodate 361 passengers across Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy. Cathay Pacific has updated all three cabins rather than limiting the refurbishment to its premium passengers.
Premium Economy and Economy Cabins Also Upgraded
The aircraft’s refreshed Premium Economy cabin is intended to provide a more comfortable experience for passengers seeking an option between Business Class and standard Economy.
Economy has also received updated seating and cabin features, while a new inflight entertainment system will be available throughout the aircraft. The broader redesign reflects the airline’s effort to provide a consistent product upgrade across multiple travel segments.
The arrival of the refurbished aircraft in Perth forms part of Cathay Pacific’s fleet modernization strategy as the carrier marks its 80th anniversary.
Perth-Hong Kong Services Support International Connections
The upgraded Boeing 777 will appear only on selected CX171 and CX140 flights during the announced period, meaning passengers seeking the Aria Suite will need to confirm the aircraft assigned to their service.
Cathay Pacific has already expanded its Perth-Hong Kong operation to twice-daily service, providing additional capacity for business travelers, tourists and passengers connecting through Hong Kong.
Perth holds historical significance within the airline’s Australian network. It was Cathay Pacific’s first Australian passenger destination, with the inaugural service connecting Perth and Hong Kong through Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur more than 55 years ago.
The increased schedule gives Western Australian travelers greater access to Cathay Pacific’s international network. Through Hong Kong, passengers can connect to destinations across Asia, Europe and North America.
The expanded service also reinforces Perth’s role as an important Australian gateway despite its geographic distance from other major population and commercial centers.
Cathay Pacific Advances HK$150 Billion Investment Program
The Perth introduction is part of an investment program valued at approximately HK$150 billion across the Cathay Group. The plan includes spending on new aircraft, upgraded cabins, lounges and digital systems.
Cathay Pacific intends to add 150 new aircraft and develop a network serving 150 destinations over the next decade, subject to market conditions. The expansion is designed to support long-term growth and strengthen Hong Kong’s position as a global aviation hub.
Cathay’s regional general manager for Southeast Asia and Oceania, Aldric Chau, said the refreshed cabins were designed to improve passenger comfort and deliver greater attention to detail throughout the travel experience.
Additional Capacity Creates Opportunity for Growth
The rollout follows Australia’s decision to increase permitted passenger capacity for services involving Hong Kong. The allowance rose to 84 flights per week from 70, while restrictions on cargo services were removed, according to Australian Aviation.
That regulatory change provides airlines with additional flexibility to expand passenger and freight connections between Australia and Hong Kong.
For Cathay Pacific, deploying the Aria Suite-equipped Boeing 777 to Perth adds a flagship premium product to a route with considerable historical and strategic importance.
