This documentary depicts the amazing life of Aurora Mardighagian. As a 14-year-old girl, she narrowly escaped the Armenian Genocide: the name of the genocide that claimed the lives of between 1 and 1.5 million Armenians in the Ottoman Empire.
A flight
Through various trips, Aurora manages to escape to the United States, where she soon attracts the attention of Hollywood. In 1919 she played the lead role in the silent film Auction of Souls, based on her life. The director of this documentary, Inna Sahakyan, is herself of Armenian descent. In Aurora’s Sunrise she combined interviews with Aurora with original images from her silent film. She uses animation and beautifully drawn images to form the bridge between interviews and film images. This results in a wonderful image of the main character Aurora; Flexible, warm and strong at the same time.
