A US court sentenced a former US ambassador to 15 years in prison on charges of spying for Cuba. Victor Manuel Rocha had previously pleaded guilty as part of a deal with US prosecutors in exchange for a reduced sentence. Rocha was arrested after confessing to an undercover FBI agent that he was a Cuban spy.

The diplomat was the US ambassador to Bolivia for two years and also held senior positions in the US State Department. For example, he was a member of the White House National Security Council. He secretly collected intelligence for over forty years and passed it on to the Cuban Communist Party.

When he bragged several times to a secret agent about his past as a spy, his situation was exposed.
According to the lawsuit, Rocha spent his entire career obtaining senior positions within the US government in order to gain access to intelligence and sensitive information. Despite Rocha's confession, prosecutors say the full extent of the spying may never be known.
