Windows 11: Taskbar with rounded corners is not a new feature

Windows 11: Taskleiste mit abgerundeten Ecken ist kein neues Feature

Several Windows 11 Insider users discovered a taskbar with rounded corners in the latest Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25174, a preview of Windows 11 23H2, from the Dev channel and other Insider previews, and posted it on the r/Windows11 sub-reddit. But it is an insect.

No taskbar with rounded corners for Windows 11

While some users already thought they had discovered a new visual feature for the Windows 11 taskbar, which gives it rounded corners, it quickly turned out that this was a bug rather than a new feature.

as such Brandon LeBlancNow, the Senior Program Manager for the Windows 11 Insider Program, has announced via SMS Twitter that it’s just a graphical bug.

This looks like a mistake. There are a few of these bugs that change the user interface in different ways. It’s not something we test in A/B testing.

It is currently assumed that the function responsible for the rounded corners of windows will also be moved to the taskbar. This is also temporarily displayed in this style.

Restarting the UI corrects errors

After exiting and then restarting the user interface via the process explorer.exe Or restart the operating system completely, then the taskbar is displayed again as normal.

Taskbar with rounded corners from Microsoft Store

While Windows 11 won’t offer a “floating” taskbar with “out of the box” rounded corners in the future either, there is a workaround for this visual trick in the Microsoft Store. RoundedTB widget allows the Windows 11 taskbar to appear floating, transparent, and with rounded corners at the top or bottom of the screen.

The official project page on the GitHub developer platform and the official release notes for the current version 3.1 (v1.3.1.0) provide more information about RoundedTB. It can also be downloaded (.ZIP) from the developer’s website.

The developer of RoundedTB also works closely with the maker of TranslucentTB. TranslucentTB is a tool that gives the taskbar transparency and an acrylic style so that the two programs complement each other in the best possible way and don’t inadvertently clash.

TranslucentTB is also available through the Microsoft Windows 11 and Windows 10 Store and the official product page on GitHub.
