WhatsApp has a new privacy feature. However, this is not activated automatically. In order to be able to use the new function, you must first enable it.
Castle – Initially, only beta testers, that is, people who test new software, could use the new functionality. Meanwhile, WhatsApp has released the new data protection function for all users. Users who have already hidden their “last seen” status should be happy with this. Now you can also hide whether you are currently online. However, you have to set this manually in the settings.
If the function is not turned on, each user can still see if you are currently online on WhatsApp. But thanks to the new functionality, you can now turn off this screen. This allows you to chat undisturbed and without noticing. It also offers privacy benefits.
WhatsApp: You must know this new data protection function
Thanks to the new function, you can no longer view strangers who have your number without your knowledge. In addition, spy apps are excluded. If it is no longer clear when you are online, the alleged activity profile can no longer be created for you. So, it is beneficial for everyone to turn on the new feature.
If you want your friends and contacts to be able to see if they are currently online, you do not have to activate the new function. Then you can also see your friends’ online status. Online status is linked to the “Last online” display. Only if you turn off the Last Seen screen can you also set it so that no one sees you when you are online.
WhatsApp: How to turn on the new privacy feature
- Open WhatsApp on the smartphone
- Click on the three dots at the top (Android) or bottom (Apple) on the right
