Smartphone enthusiasts still have no qualms about Apple removing the charger from their iPhone boxes. Those with previous iPhone models can use the old power adapter. However, newcomers to the Apple family had to purchase a new charger.

But Apple outlines benefits of ditching chargers amid complaints, including from its fans. Apple says it saved 861,000 metric tons of the metal by eliminating chargers. This will include copper, tin and zinc, according to the Environmental Progress Report.

The change facilitates smaller, lighter weight packaging, allowing Apple to include up to 70% of products on one shipping pad. In addition, Apple revealed that it had reduced carbon dioxide emissions from 25.1 million tons in 2019 to 22.6 million tons.

Apple has also mentioned cloud-based AI services such as i-Cloud, Siri, and i-Message. The company notes that all of them are now fully operating on sustainable energy.
