The Orange Woman has a good ending to a bad year. Last summer at the European Championships in England, the Netherlands were dethroned in shocking fashion as European champions. In the quarter-finals, then-national coach Mark Parsons’ team never lost a chance against France (0-1).
A poor European Championship cost Parsons his job in August. Juncker was appointed as his successor, two weeks after the Briton was sacked. Under Louis van Gaal’s former right-hand man, the smile has returned to orange. In September, the Netherlands qualified directly for next year’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
The Netherlands will not meet again until February. And then already begins preparation for the Jonker World Cup. The global final tournament will start on July 20. The Netherlands will meet the defending champions, the United States, Vietnam, and the winners of the first group of the play-offs (Portugal, Thailand and Cameroon) in the group stage.
