The Netherlands is well represented in the new Longines League of Nations

The Netherlands is well represented in the new Longines League of Nations

Brian Rodriguez, December 9, 2023

In two months, a renewed national competition series for show jumping riders will begin under the name of the Longines Nations League, the successor to the FEI Nations Cup series. Ten national teams compete in four qualifying matches for the final eight places. The Netherlands plays an important role in this first edition on several fronts.

TeamNL showjumpers have qualified for this prestigious competition series under the leadership of Jos Lansink. The Dutch national team, which qualified in seventh place for the Longines Nations League, competes with teams from Ireland, the United States, France, Germany, Switzerland, Great Britain, Belgium, Sweden and Brazil.

Four qualifying matches

There are four qualifying matches on the calendar, spread across three continents. After these four matches, the rankings are drawn up and the eight highest-placed countries receive an invitation to the final in Barcelona. The Netherlands also has an important role in the qualifying matches, because Chew Rotterdam is able to organize the fourth and final qualifying match. Iris Bollhauer, Director of Top Sports at KNHS, has a clear goal: “TeamNL will do everything in its power to field a strong team in all competitions; The final in Barcelona is our main goal.”

New formula

Although the FEI name no longer appears in the naming of the new competition series, the FEI is indeed the birthplace. The FEI decided to start anew. In the first round of the Nations Cup, four competitors will start, and the three best results will be counted. In the second round, only three contestants from each country are allowed back on the track, a difficult task for the ten chefs. Among them are three Dutch. TeamNL boss Jos Lansink will meet compatriots Peter van der Weij (Switzerland) and Henk Noren (France) in the new Qatari competition series.
