    PIA Denies Social Media Allegations

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has strongly rejected a viral social media claim alleging that an entire flight crew went missing in Toronto, Canada, describing the report as false, misleading, and deliberately aimed at harming the reputation of the national carrier and Pakistan.

The allegation originated from a post on X and was widely circulated online, prompting the airline to issue an official clarification. PIA said the claim had no factual basis and did not correspond with any operational records or crew accountability data.

According to the airline, the post was part of a broader misinformation campaign designed to damage PIA’s image at a time when airlines globally face heightened scrutiny over operational transparency and workforce management.

    Official Statement and Airline Response

In a formal statement issued on X, Pakistan International Airlines denied what it described as a fabricated claim regarding the disappearance of an entire crew from a specific PIA flight in Toronto. The airline characterized the report as entirely baseless and said it was circulated to malign PIA and Pakistan.

PIA stated that its operational records and crew monitoring systems showed no irregularities related to the allegation. The airline emphasized that no such incident had taken place and that all crew movements are logged through established accountability procedures.

The airline further asserted that the misinformation originated from anti-Pakistan quarters and urged the public to verify information through official and credible sources rather than relying on unverified social media posts.

    Spokesperson Highlights Misinformation Campaign

PIA spokesperson Abdullah Hafeez Khan also rejected the claim in a separate statement, saying the misleading information was circulated by an Afghan and anti-Pakistan account. He said the post was part of a well-conceived plan based on hostility toward Pakistan and aimed at damaging the reputation of the national airline and the country.

The spokesperson reiterated that the report had no factual basis and advised the public to rely on verified and official sources for information. According to Dawn, the airline has maintained that such misinformation campaigns undermine public trust and distort facts, particularly in sensitive sectors such as aviation.

Acknowledgment of Past Individual Crew Incidents

While firmly denying the viral claim, PIA acknowledged that individual cases involving missing crew members have been reported in the past, particularly in Canada. The airline clarified that these incidents were isolated and unrelated to the claim of a full crew disappearance.

PIA stressed that none of the past cases involved the disappearance of an entire flight crew and that each incident was treated independently under airline regulations.

    Recent and Past Reported Cases

One such case occurred on November 21, when a PIA flight attendant failed to report for duty on flight PK 798 from Toronto to Lahore. According to spokesperson Abdullah Hafeez Khan, when contacted, the attendant cited ill health as the reason for not reporting for duty. He added that the matter was under investigation and that departmental action would be initiated in the event of an illegal disappearance.

Additional cases were reported over the past year. In October last year, a cabin crew member based in Islamabad reportedly went missing during a layover in Toronto. In March 2024, a 47-year-old PIA steward was also reported missing in Canada.

Another incident occurred in February 2024, when a cabin crew member arrived in Toronto on flight PK 782 from Islamabad but failed to report for the return flight PK 784 to Karachi.

Airline’s Position on Accountability and Transparency

PIA stated that all past incidents involving individual crew members were handled through internal inquiries and in line with airline regulations. The carrier emphasized that each case was investigated on its own merits, following established disciplinary and administrative procedures.

The airline reiterated that no case involved the disappearance of an entire crew and said attempts to link isolated incidents to the recent viral claim were misleading.

    Commitment to Operational Discipline

Reaffirming its stance, Pakistan International Airlines said it remains committed to transparency, operational discipline, and timely clarification of false reports. The airline added that it will continue to respond promptly to misinformation and maintain accountability across its operations.

As misinformation spreads rapidly through social media platforms, PIA urged the public to exercise caution and rely on official statements and verified reporting for accurate updates related to airline operations and crew matters.
