The CDC will recommend that everyone in K-12 schools wear a mask — regardless of vaccination status
The new guideline comes nearly two months after President Joe Biden called it a “great day in America” when the CDC revised mask guidelines for vaccinated people and reflects a psychological setback for a country struggling to escape the clutches of the pandemic. Wearing masks has been a political issue, and the decision to revise mask guidelines will undoubtedly meet with backlash from Republicans, especially in schools. Current CDC guidelines state that all people 2 years of age and older who have not been fully vaccinated should wear masks at school
CNN previously reported that top officials met Sunday evening to review new data and evidence related to changing business portability and hacking, according to a person familiar with the meeting.
White House officials have repeatedly said that it is up to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to change the official guidelines and that they will follow in the footsteps of health and medical experts.
A senior government official said the decision was made because of the delta’s mobile shape.
“It is based on the fact that the delta variant is clearly more convertible than its predecessors,” the official said.
New evidence has shown that levels of virus in the blisters of vaccinated people are comparable to those of people who are not vaccinated with coronavirus, the official said, raising concerns that vaccinated individuals may be able to spread the virus.
A separate health official said, based on the latest data, officials believe that vaccinated people only transmit a small amount of the coronavirus and that the vast majority of spread is still through unvaccinated people. But they know abuses can happen, and emerging data suggests some vaccinated people may spread them, prompting Tuesday’s decision as they continue to study it.
In general, copies of the virus that were common in the past do not appear to be transmitted from fully vaccinated people.
“When you get information about the risks and how to mitigate the risks, there is an obligation on public health to let people know about them,” the senior government official said.
Doctor. Anthony Fauci, chief medical advisor for Covid-19 and director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said Sunday that the United States is “going in the wrong direction” as the number of Covid-19 cases continues to rise, especially among unvaccinated Americans.
Biden said last week that more than two dozen members of the Covid response team are investigating the increase in cases and hospitalizations among unvaccinated people and determining whether recommendations for new masks are needed.
