Centuria has acquired Katunga Fresh's 21-hectare greenhouse in Australia. The deal was concluded through a 20-year lease. Katunga Fresh is one of the largest tomato suppliers in Australia and has been operating at this location for 20 years. This supplier supplies major supermarkets in Australia with vegetables all year round.
Centuria now has five large tomato greenhouses in Australia. The ASX-listed specialist investment manager recently acquired Australian farming company P'Petual Holdings. Jason Huljic, Centuria CEO: “The Katunga facility is part of our investment strategies and is supported by a lease agreement. We want to grow CAF into one of the largest specialist horticulture funds in Australia, providing Centuria investors with access to real estate opportunities.”
16 thousand tons of tomatoes
Katunga's lighting technology increases planting hours and production yields and helps compensate for seasonality of farming. Approximately 16,000 tons of vine tomatoes can be grown in the greenhouse annually. In addition to the greenhouses, the acquisition also includes large packaging warehouses, energy infrastructure, groundwater licenses and on-site water storage facilities.
Katonga
Andrew Tutt, Head of Horticulture at Centuria: “We are delighted to be working with Katunga Fresh. We want to supply fresh tomatoes and peppers all year round in a profitable way. Katunga Fresh has been active since 2004 and was one of the first companies to have greenhouse gardeners in the country.”
Katunga Fresh uses the latest quad-gene technology and conducts research into additional renewable energy technologies. Katonga is located approximately 230 km north of Melbourne and 45 km north of Shepperton VIC. Located in the Goulburn Valley area.
