Chery and Maccabi announce their departure: the player remains in the Netherlands

Chery and Maccabi announce their departure: the player remains in the Netherlands

Brian Rodriguez, May 7, 2024

Tjaronn Chery has been rented by NEC from Maccabi Haifa for six months. The Israeli club has now announced via its social channels that the attacking midfielder is leaving and wants to stay in the Netherlands with his family.

Cherie returned to the Netherlands in January for the sake of his son Che's health. He needed special medical assistance that could be found in the Netherlands. Chery had several clubs to choose from, but ultimately chose NEC. It was still clear to him at that time that he would return to Israel after these six months. “I have another year of the contract after that. They didn't want me to go. I'm the team captain and one of the most important players in the club. I told them frankly that I love Maccabi Haifa, but at the moment my family is the most important,” he said at the time.

In his first match he was immediately important with a goal against Go Ahead Eagles after a run from his own half. In his first matches he started well with three goals in three matches. After that, things got a little worse for the playmaker, partly due to injury, but that changed on Monday against Excelsior. Cherry scored two goals, bringing his tally to five. It is still unclear whether Chery will remain with NEC after the summer, but he will remain in the Netherlands, Maccabi Haifa reported.
