In Switzerland, there is currently a warning of rising water levels in Lake Constance and new landslides after heavy rains for days. Parts of the Alpine country have been hit by heavy rain in recent days.

Since Saturday morning, rain ranging from 15 to 30 mm has fallen widely on the northern slopes of the Alps, in northern and central Graubünden and in parts of northern Ticino. Locally more than 100 mm fell. In Grono, 110 mm were measured in 24 hours on Saturday. This caused large landslides locally. High waters washed away the nearby highway leading to the town of Lustalo in the south of the country.

The water level in Lake Constance is dangerously high

No further widespread rainfall is expected on Monday, but new landslides may occur due to saturated soil. In addition, the water level in Lake Constance remains dangerously high, the Swiss Meteorological Service warned.

At least one person died as a result of the landslides that occurred last weekend. Two others are still missing. The Swiss Army was deployed to find missing people and bring others in danger to safety.
