Switzerland and Scotland have one point remaining in their second match in the European Football Championship. The tit-for-tat match in Cologne ended in a 1-1 draw. Both teams still have a chance to reach the knockout stage.

Switzerland arrived in Cologne full of confidence after defeating Hungary (3-1), while Scotland had lost its first match to Germany 5-1. Hoping to put things right, national coach Steve Clarke's team immediately attacked. Scotland were dangerous on a number of occasions from corner kicks before opening the scoring in the 13th minute. After a quick break from the Scots, Scott McTominay's shot went past the Swiss goalkeeper through defender Fabian Schar.

Switzerland tied the score again fifteen minutes later thanks to a huge error by Anthony Ralston. A poor pass from the defender was intercepted by Xherdan Shaqiri and the experienced midfielder immediately shot into the cross from distance, 1-1. Dan Ndoye almost made the score 2-1 for Switzerland, but goalkeeper Angus Gunn saved it well. Ndoye scored from the resulting corner kick, but the goal was disallowed for offside.

Ndoye also appeared in the second half. The striker gave himself space to shoot, but his attempt went past the post. Grant Hanley was closer to the target at the other end of the pitch. He headed a free kick against the post. Cheered on by the noisy 'Tartan Army' in the stands, the Scots continued in search of a second goal, while another goal scored by substitute Briel Embolo was disallowed. However, the score remained 1-1.

Earlier on Wednesday, Germany qualified for the knockout stage with 6 points after defeating Hungary (2-0). Switzerland has 4 points, Scotland has 1 point, and Hungary has 0 points.
