Theodore Meeks, April 25, 2024

Managers at the South Korean company will now have to work six days a week instead of five. The Korean Economic Daily reported this, citing company representatives.

Samsung has had a mixed year in 2023, with some areas of the business falling short of expectations. Samsung Electronics, whose main business is semiconductors, incurred an operating loss of $11 billion last year. The Hardware Solutions division, which is dominated by semiconductors, represents about four-fifths of Samsung's revenue. The company is also suffering from the sharp decline in the value of the South Korean won, high oil prices, and high borrowing costs. Samsung calculates that overtime will lead to more profits.

Service is on Saturday or Sunday

Thus, managers in the production and sales departments can choose whether they want to work overtime on Saturday or Sunday. The schedule has been in effect since last week. However, this action is not entirely new internally: since the beginning of the year, managers from Samsung CT Corp and Samsung Heavy Industries Co. and E&A Co. They work voluntarily six days a week instead of five.
