Unlike the UK, Prince Harry already receives police protection in the Netherlands. The British Prince was escorted to the swimming finals by the Royal and Diplomatic Security Service (DKDB) during the Invictus Games in The Hague on Tuesday and was transported in an armored car, he can be seen.

This is the first time since the start of the sporting event that the prince has descended on a public road and his means of transportation is displayed. In the UK, the Duke of Sussex will not be given police protection because he has resigned from his royal duties.

Prince Harry’s security has been controversial, because a judge in his home country has previously ruled that the prince will not have police protection there since he resigned from his royal duties two years ago. The US Armed Security Service that Harry and Meghan have hired in America themselves will not be given access to some British documents that should ensure the family’s safety. A spokesperson for the couple said: “Without this security, Prince Harry and his family will not be able to return to his home.” Earlier it was announced that Harry and Meghan also took a security guard, the former bodyguard of US President George W. Bush and Barack Obama, to the Invictus Games.

The Ministry of Justice and Security says it does not want to answer questions about security. The Duke of Sussex’s spokesman is not making any statements on security matters. Invictus Games previously announced that it organizes the security of the event itself and that “security agencies” regulate the security of individuals.

A spokesperson for the National Police, which includes the Royal and Diplomatic Security Service (DKDB), told this site on Thursday that he “unfortunately can’t say anything about it”. The police spokesman said the DKDB is protecting members of the royal family and their guests, as well as diplomats and persons designated by the National Coordinator for Security and Counter-Terrorism (NCTV) or the attorney general. But do Harry and Meghan fall under that? “We don’t make any statements about that.”

    First time

This is the first time since Harry and Meghan left their royal duties two years ago that the couple have made a public appearance outside of America. Due to security concerns, the couple did not attend the memorial service for Harry’s grandfather, Prince Philip, earlier this year. Just before their visit to The Hague, Harry and Meghan paid a brief visit to Queen Elizabeth. Meghan is said to have returned to the United States on Monday. However, this has not been confirmed for security reasons.
