The body found yesterday on the Spanish island of Tenerife is in fact that of British teenager Jay Slater, who has been missing since June. Spanish authorities confirmed this after an investigation. It appears that Slater, 19, died after falling.

The body was found in the area where the boy went missing. Although the official identification was not completed until today, authorities have already assumed it is the British teenager because the teenager's clothes and belongings were found near the body.

Slater's injuries are consistent with a fall in the mountainous area, authorities said, but autopsy results are not expected for several days.

    Missing since June

Slater was on holiday with friends when he disappeared on June 17. After a festival, he was the only one in the group to go with two people he had met earlier on his holiday. He missed the last bus to his holiday home, so decided to walk back.

The last active search for the teenager was conducted in late June by police and a group of volunteers, also near the final location of the body. To ensure the safety of the search, no searches were conducted near the valleys in the mountainous, cactus-filled area of the Rural de Teno National Park near Masca.

The body was eventually found in an impenetrable area where no search had been conducted in late June. According to police, there was a high probability that the boy had fallen, making the search extremely difficult.
