The state government has approved the project to restart and expand the Pillichsdorf wind farm (Mistelbach district) in Weinviertel. According to a press release, the environmental impact assessment has been completed positively.

At the wind farm in Pilichsdorf, five existing wind turbines are to be dismantled and replaced with seven new, ultra-modern turbines. The wind farm's output is said to triple from 16 to more than 56 megawatts.

Deputy Governor Stefan Pernkopf (ÖVP) emphasized that the energy transition will continue to move forward. “We are primarily focusing on modernizing old systems, because in this way we expand renewable energy production, increase energy independence, reduce CO2 emissions and at the same time use our land economically.”

Another 200 wind turbines are planned to be built across the country.

In addition to the approximately 800 wind turbines currently in Lower Austria, another 200 will be added in the next few years. The amount of wind energy could be doubled because the existing wind turbines will be replaced by more efficient modern systems.

“By cooperating, both the environment and the population benefit,” said the mayor of Bilichsdorf, Florian Faber (ÖVP). The project has been approved “- after six new wind turbines in Schrick, also in the Weinviertel. “In total, we want to modernize and expand seven of our wind farms.”
