Controversy in Nador: Paying for going to the beach©

A storm of criticism has erupted in the municipality of Beni Ansar after a fee was imposed for access to the beaches. Swimmers are calling on the governor of Nador to intervene.

When beachgoers wanted to go to Bokana (Bukhana) last Saturday, they were surprised by a toll station. Beni Ansar municipality employees asked them for 10 dirhams for the beach entry fee. This led to great anger, because people felt that their freedom of movement was restricted. Some go to Bukana for reasons other than just sunbathing and swimming. They have family living there or even their own home. One angry visitor said: “Everywhere people are encouraged to go to the beach, but Beni Ansar do it differently. They charge money, while there are not even facilities to justify it.”
