The wreck of a missing Indonesian submarine has been found off Bali. The ship appears to have been shattered into three pieces. Indonesian authorities said on Sunday that all 53 crew members had died.

The chance to escape appeared to be lost on Saturday after the submarine search found the shipwreck. The submarine itself was located about 850 meters in the water, when it was actually built to dive down to just 500 meters. This indicates that the boat has sunk.

44-year-old KRI Nanggala-402 disappeared from radar on Wednesday, about 95 kilometers off the coast of Bali. This happened during a torpedo exercise. In the search for the crew, Indonesia received assistance from other countries, including Australia and the United States.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo expressed his condolences to the crew’s relatives. He said, “All Indonesians express their deep sorrow for this tragedy, especially towards the crew’s families.”

The military showed some debris and objects from the submarine during a press conference on Saturday.
