Everyone still remembers: Mathieu van der Poel who lived a real nightmare at the World Road Cycling Championships in Australia in 2022. In the Netherlands they have déjà vu.
However, there is no cycling world championships on the program around this time of year, but there was another competition of national interest last weekend: the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö. You may have noticed: The exclusion of Dutchman Joost Klein was the main news in the Low Countries.
He performed his song “Europapa” in the semi-finals on Thursday and qualified for the Eurovision Song Contest final. After his performance, Klein allegedly threatened a female photographer from the organization, who then filed a complaint with the police. The singer was subsequently questioned by Swedish police, but was not arrested.

The night before the day of the World Road Cycling Championships, Van der Poel's night's sleep was constantly disturbed by teenage girls who repeatedly knocked on his room door. Van der Poel pursued them and eventually had to spend several hours in prison.
Van der Poel acquitted
The cyclist was then able to participate in his big event, but he was soon forced to withdraw because he arrived at the start of the World Cup without having had enough rest. He was eventually acquitted in December 2022.
