Bart Friends finally secured a move abroad this summer and he's very happy about it, but a move to Australia still has its downsides. The defender is on a plane to Oceania during the Netherlands-England semi-final.
Friends himself said this in a conversation with EspenHe says he's “really fed up” with it. “So I'm on a plane for 24 hours and the Dutch team are playing a semi-final that evening and this…”
“I still have to organize something,” the departing Spartan has not yet given up hope of watching the match. “I hope the Wi-Fi on the plane is better these days.”
“I really want to see it, so I’ll find a way and put an orange shirt in my handbag, because we’re close to the final,” says Friends, who says he’d be willing to “pay a lot” to watch the Dutch semi-final.
“I really want to watch that game and hopefully I will be on the plane with a few other Dutch people,” concludes the future Australian resident.
The 33-year-old will play for Adelaide United from this summer, having signed a two-year deal. The deal comes after an eight-year spell at Sparta Rotterdam, during which time he made an impressive 215 appearances for the club.
The A-League, Australia's top level and the competition in which Adelaide competes, runs parallel to most European competitions and therefore ended in May. The red onesthe new employer of Vriends, will start the season at the end of July with a cup match against Blacktown City.
