On Tuesday, Morocco and the United States signed a road map for military cooperation between them.

This came during the second meeting of the Moroccan-American Defense Advisory Committee at the Royal Armed Forces headquarters in Rabat.

The roadmap provides guidelines for implementing agreed-upon regional security activities, capacity development, and cooperation with U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) and the Utah National Guard.

On this occasion, King Mohammed VI, in his capacity as Supreme Commander of the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces, presented awards to three American officers for their efforts in developing and strengthening Moroccan-American military cooperation.

Moroccan-American military cooperation is subject to bilateral agreements, memorandums of understanding and technical arrangements.

The meeting was held with the launch of the African Lion exercise, the largest military exercise in Africa, on Monday. The exercises, which will continue until May 31, are organized by the Rwandan Armed Forces and the US Armed Forces, in cooperation with about twenty other countries and NATO.

The purpose of the US-Moroccan exercises is to enhance operational, technical and procedural interoperability between the participating militaries, and to promote the values of peace and security.
