Social media is huge these days, but it doesn’t just bring the positive things. Likewise, a lot of hate messages and misinformation appear on social media platforms. Several Hollywood stars decided to boycott Facebook and Instagram for 24 hours in protest.
The procedure, called “Stop Hate for Profit,” was initiated by several civil rights organizations from the United States such as the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the Anti-Defamation League.
The business was very successful. Other actors and celebrities like Leonardo DiCaprio, Sacha Baron Cohen, Mark Ruffalo, Sebastian Stan, Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry, Judd Apatow, Amy Schumer, Kate Hudson, Sarah Silverman, Rosario Dawson and Kerry Washington all blocked Facebook and Instagram all day.

As they share empty talk about voting, they continue to allow blatant lies and disinformation about the elections to spread the undermining of our democracy.
This is the reason why this Wednesday I “freeze” my Instagram account for telling Facebook about it #StopHateForProfit. (2/2) https://t.co/T2x3foDRWV
