Opinions are divided in Javastraat about how the match between the Netherlands and Turkey will end next Saturday. In a home goods store, the owner and two customers stand in front of them. “It will be very exciting,” says the owner. The customers are divided, one expecting a win for Turkey and the other for the Netherlands. “It will definitely be a great evening!” conclude the three men.

HDown the road at a bakery, people are also looking forward with delight. “I don’t care who wins,” says the baker of Turkish origin. “I support Turkey, but it’s okay if the Netherlands still wins. At the end of the day, I’m Dutch,” he adds. The entrepreneurs are also happy with the 9 a.m. start time. “At 6 a.m., I’m still cleaning up, and now I’m ready,” says a grocer from Javastraat.

At Café Gijs de Rooy, everything is ready for the quarter-finals. “We have a lot of experience from previous Ajax tournaments and matches and we expect a full house,” says owner Marco de Rooy. “There are many regulars from the East on Saturday and everyone is welcome, including Turkish fans. But of course the Netherlands will win,” laughs Marco from behind the bar. There is always a win-win situation on the Jaffstraat after the match, and it is a big possibility. Either one or the other will win.
