Airline Nears Full Recovery as Global Operations Expand

DUBAI — Emirates has restored 96 percent of its global network, marking a significant milestone in its recovery from recent operational disruptions and signaling renewed momentum in international air travel demand.

The carrier now operates flights to 137 destinations across 72 countries, supported by more than 1,300 weekly departures. While overall capacity remains at approximately 75 percent of pre-disruption levels, the steady increase in flight frequencies underscores the airline’s strategy to rebuild connectivity and restore passenger confidence.

Network Restoration Gains Across Key Markets

Emirates’ recovery spans major global regions, including the Americas, Europe, Africa, West Asia, the Middle East, the Far East, and Australasia. The phased resumption reflects improving operational conditions and a gradual rebound in long-haul travel demand.

Despite reduced schedules during the disruption period between March 1 and April 30, the airline carried 4.7 million passengers. The figure highlights continued demand for international travel even as flight availability and routing were constrained.

The airline has continued to adjust schedules and add frequencies in response to market conditions, aiming to improve connectivity and offer passengers more travel options. These efforts are also designed to reinforce Dubai’s position as a leading global transit hub.

Flexible Booking Measures Aim to Boost Demand

To support travelers during the recovery phase, Emirates has introduced more flexible booking policies. Customers booking from April 2 are eligible for one free date change across all cabin classes, providing greater flexibility amid evolving travel conditions.

Passengers can also hold fares for up to 24 hours at no additional cost, giving them more time to finalize travel plans. The airline said these measures are intended to reduce uncertainty and encourage bookings as services continue to expand.

For transit passengers, Emirates is enhancing its Dubai Connect program, which caters to long layovers between six and 26 hours. Eligible travelers receive complimentary hotel accommodations in four- or five-star properties, along with airport transfers, meals, and visa assistance where required.

Dubai International Airport Traffic Reflects Regional Challenges

Meanwhile, Dubai International Airport (DXB) reported handling 18.6 million passengers in the first quarter of 2026, representing a 20.6 percent decline compared to the same period last year. The drop reflects the impact of regional airspace challenges that intensified in March.

Passenger traffic in March alone totaled 2.5 million, marking a sharp year-on-year decrease of 65.7 percent.

Despite the decline, the airport maintained continuous operations and supported essential passenger and cargo movements during the disruption period.

India remained the largest country market for DXB with 2.5 million passengers, followed by Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, and Pakistan. London emerged as the busiest city destination, ahead of Mumbai and Jeddah.

Cargo volumes reached 399,600 tonnes during the quarter, while aircraft movements totaled 88,000.

Since late February, Dubai’s airports have handled 6 million passengers, more than 32,000 flights, and over 213,000 tonnes of cargo, demonstrating operational resilience amid challenging conditions.

    Outlook Signals Gradual Recovery

Emirates’ near-complete network restoration and DXB’s continued operational performance point to a gradual stabilization in global aviation, even as capacity remains below historical levels.

The airline’s focus on flexibility, connectivity, and customer experience suggests a measured approach to rebuilding demand while navigating ongoing uncertainties in international travel.

As flight frequencies continue to rise and passenger confidence improves, Emirates is positioning itself to capture renewed demand across key long-haul markets and strengthen its role in global aviation recovery.
